(PSYCHOGEOGRAPHY PROJECT)

Psychogeography in Music

Geography emerges as one of the most significant factors for humans, and immigration or travel to other countries can alter the type of inspiration and emotions through psychogeography. In fact, music production and creativity can be affected by these changes. In simple terms, psychogeography in music involves moving to a different location, drawing inspiration from the new environment, and incorporating that influence into a music project.

When I moved to Scotland, this country deeply inspired me! A deeper part of my inspiration comes from the sky that I see from my bedroom window during cold autumn/winter nights. Therefore, for this project, I decided to produce a soundtrack in the electronic genre and sub-genre hypnotic techno. One of the interesting things for me in the process of the project are the layers of the sounds in hypnotic techno, where you can feel the furthest elements that I used in my production, which are like that dim star in the night sky that still holds a significant place in the universe. It was crucial for me to bring these feelings as a voiceover in my track, which has been done by my partner Pardis. This project has helped me learn about psychogeography in music and has increased my interest in incorporating inspirations from different locations into my future soundtracks. It also encourages me to pay more attention to the environment wherever I go.
