Sound design - Annual Exhibition Fine art University of Hamburg (2022)
On January 19, 2017 an accidental fire, which started by an electric shorting, resulted in the complete collapse of the 16-storey Plasco Building in Tehran. Several people including firefighters were killed in that incident. PLASCO was an iconic commercial high rise in the center of Tehran. Emergency responders, firefighters and soldiers searched and dug through the rubble and remains, seeking for survivors. The work process began with modeling the building from an architectural plan and reference pictures from inside and outside of the building. Using the left images and the street view from Google Earth, a simulation of collapse scene was created. The movement of the camera guides the viewer from the starting point before the fire started to the point where only ashes remain.
I crafted the sound design and produced the background music for this project, blending sound effects and natural recordings to create an immersive auditory experience. For the exterior scenes, I utilized ambient natural sounds to establish a realistic environment. As the camera transitions indoors, I introduced electric distortion elements to convey a shift in atmosphere. Additionally, for scenes depicting the building's collapse, I incorporated burning sounds to enhance the viewer's understanding and emotional impact of the destruction.
